I’m first going to define responsive web design or (RWD).
Responsive web design is an approach aimed at creating sites to provide an optimal viewing experience – easy reading and navigation with a minimum of resizing, panning, and scrolling – across a wide range of devices (from mobile phones to tablets and desktop computer monitors). A site designed with RWD adapts the site layout to the viewing environment by using fluid, proportion-based grids, flexible images, and CSS3 media queries.
So why is this so important?
To make a long story shorter, it allows the site layout to automatically “respond” to the viewing environment or device accessing the site giving the user an easy to navigate experience without having to scroll, pan or resize the page.
The importance factor here is grand! Not only can web site be easily viewed and navigated on any device, but the time and maintenance involved in creating other formats and layouts can be eliminated. This in turn saves design time and your hard earned money!
Okay I’m a believer, now what?
